Xbox Live users targeted in scam
22/11/2011
Xbox Live users have been the target of a phishing scam urging them to give away personal details.
The attack, which involved a scam email, sent users to a fake website where they were asked to input data such as their address, emails and credit card details.
Microsoft, which makes the Xbox, has said it doesn't know how many users have been affected by the attack but has urged accountholders never to give out passwords or email addresses and not to give personal information to websites unless they are sure they are genuine.
In a statement, the computing giant said it takes security issues regarding Xbox Live seriously and is working to improve the service.
"We work closely with impacted members directly to resolve any unauthorised changes to their accounts," the statement continued, adding that the firm advises users to follow its security guidelines.
Hackers recently gained access to the Steam network, which distributes some of the world's best-selling games titles, putting millions of players at risk.

We have had a few customers from different companies who have opened an email attachment relating to DHL tracking that has then downloaded and run malicious software. This is being identified as a virus by the various anti-virus software on their systems, but people are still running it. Once we remove it, sometimes it is causing profiles to become corrupted and needing to be reset. Maybe this is something you could pass on.
